Today’s advertising is not as effective as ten years ago. Thanks to all the technologies we have today, most people completely ignore ads thanks to their iPod or TiVo. A much more efficient and less expensive way of transmitting the image of your group to a wide audience, through advertising. When a potential fan reads about you on the latest popular music blog or sees your photo on Alternative Press, they will have many more opportunities to become interested in your band.
Blogs and magazines
In order for your band to get more ads through music magazines or online music blogs, there are three important keys to remember. First, you must find blogs or magazines that specifically cover the type or music you play. You don’t want to send your press kit to a music blog that covers only the country if you’re a rock band. It will also bother these publishers or bloggers by sending them information that they cannot use. So be sure to take the time to find out what blogs or magazines your target audience is already reading. These are the posts you really want to focus on.
Press release
The next key you want to pay attention to is the press release. If you want a specific publication to write about your next important event you are organizing, you must send this publication with a well-written press release at least two or three weeks before the event. Therefore, they will have enough time to understand how your publication will benefit and include it. There are many websites where you can find the current format of press releases. Also, the more you read other press releases, the better you write yours. As in the case of music, writing press releases requires practice. Don’t you have enough time to do it yourself? Then, hire a publicist who already knows how to write communications and already has contacts with the media.
Updated press kit
Finally, your group should always have an updated press kit. This is a package with an image of his band, a biography, all the press he has already received, a list of the places he played and contact information. You can also create an electronic press package (EPK) through your ReverbNation account, which I highly recommend. In most cases, after sending a press kit to reporters, they will want to see your press kit. You can also send your press kit when seeking sponsorship. This is definitely the tool you need.
Like everything else, you must be consistent in this. Once you order all these materials, it will eventually become much easier. If your group focuses on the publications your target audience reads, teachers write effective press releases and always keep the press kits up to date, these three keys will increase your chances of becoming public and quickly creating your fan base.
